Abercrombie and Fitch







The company was originally established as Abercrombie Co. by David T. Abercrombie on June 4, 1892, as a small waterfront shop at No.36 South Street in downtown Manhattan, New York.

Entering into the 21st century, Abercrombie & Fitch was rated as the sixth most popular brand (in front of Nintendo and Levis) by teenagers in a survey held by Teenage Researchers Unlimited and reported about in TimeThe company introduced its third brand, Hollister Co., in July 2000.
The third concept was based on Southern California surf lifestyle, and was targeted towards high-schoolers and began producing A&F clothing with higher-grade materials, thus increasing the prices.A&F specifically focuses on casualwear and accessories for a target consumer ages of 18 through 22.

The Abercrombie & Fitch brand image is heavily promoted as an international nearluxury lifestyle concept. The company began cultivating an upscale image after the 2005 opening of its Fifth Avenue flagship store alongside Prada and other upscale retailers.

Having for years used high-grade materials in the construction of its merchandise and priced them at "near-luxury" levels, the trademark Casual Luxury was introduced as a fictional dictionary term with multiple definitions such as "[using] the finest cashmere, pima cottons, and highest quality leather to create the ultimate in casual, body conscious clothing,"and "implementing and/or incorporating time honored machinery ...to produce the most exclusive denim..."


This upscale image has allowed A&F to open stores in international high-end locations and further promote the image by pricing its merchandise at almost double the American prices.Its prices are recognized as the highest in the youth-clothing industry.


The exterior of the modern "canoe store" design features white molding and black louvers. The currently featured marketing image directly faces the entrance. The interior is lighted with dim ceiling lights and spot lighting. Fierce, an A&F fragrance for men, is automatically spritzed from the lighting tracks and manually by employees.Electronic dance music meant to create an upbeat atmosphere may be played at sound levels as high as 90 decibels

"It is an amazing store. First it is always dark there thus creating a special atmosphere, lights on the clothes and all interior is finished in dark woods. amazing art direction and interior design totally setting up the perfect scenery. They people working there are carefully selected and mostly beautiful or profiled "hip/cool" — you need to have appealing looks — boys as well as girls. And there's a constant, relatively loud, playing funk-house tune present at all times..."
